Our Super Hero Turns FOUR!!

On March 9, Isaac celebrated his fourth birthday and oh boy, was he excited!

We gave him a couple gifts first thing in the morning. Unfortunately, most of those pics didn't turn out due to camera operator error. Oops (yeah, that was me, but hey, it was early in the morn, okay?).

But, here he is in his new mask and red boots.

That afternoon he had a few friends over for a super hero party. He really wanted everyone to dress up as super heroes and it was so fun to see all his buddies in costume!

 My mom was the real super hero of the day for helping me put all those fruit kabobs together! It took longer than I had planned on and she saved the day by doing it for me.

This was just one of the activities I set up for the kiddos. I guess I didn't get pics of the rest. Boo. We had pin the star on Captain America's shield and an X-ray vision game. I also didn't get a picture of the favors I handed out (more boo). I made date/almond/cocoa balls and called them Power Balls 'to give you energy the next time you need to Hero Up!'

 The heroes were much more interested in just running around, though. Probably why I did't get pictures of the games. Nobody played them! Ya win some, ya lose some.

Isaac wanted a dance party included in the festivities (he had very specific ideas). We played the theme song to 'Super Hero Squad' and the kids ran around, which is their version of dancing.

 Speaking of very specific ideas....Isaac had a very specific idea for my Scarlet Witch costume and it took me a while to get him to be okay with the fact that I wasn't going to wear a red bathing suit to his party. 'But Scarlet Witch doesn't wear a skirt!!!!' Oh, he was so upset. I explained that everyone could create their costume the way they wanted to. He obviously did! His costume just cracked me up. He's dressed as the Falcon with a paper mask, cardboard wings, red boots and a Superman shirt. He is just too precious!

We all decided we need to hire Paul to entertain our kids. They had so much fun running after that ball!

Fun, fun party!

Last Sunday we had a little party with our family to celebrate not only Isaac's, but also Mike's birthday. 

I spent the day before the party planning for it and things did not exactly go as planned. This is my Facebook post from that evening. 

1 flat tire - check
1 pot of overcooked beans - check
1 pork roast in the trash - check
Meat and cheese on my cheese less veggie burrito - check

I didn't dare laugh on Sunday because the preparations weren't over yet, but the party went off without a hitch and at the end of the day when I asked Isaac if he had fun he said, 'Yes! It was exactly how I wanted it!' So, all the headache of the day before was worth it to hear my little guy say that!

The day was gorgeous! We could not have asked for better weather.

Trying out the walkie talkies. Jacob and Isaac were/are a little shaky on how to operate. Jacob just shouts into it and Isaac pushes the button for every word he speaks.

I can just imagine what Alan was hearing over that walkie talkie!

A super hero cake for the super birthday boys!
Here's another case of specific ideas. Isaac wanted a lemon cake with blueberries and we went back and forth as to how this cake should be - blueberries in the cake or blueberry filling or blueberries on top?? We finally decided on a lemon cake with blueberries baked in the cake, lemon curd filling and lemon buttercream frosting. It was pretty stinkin' good, if I do say so myself!

Catch up

We went to a Valentine's Party with boot camp and as usual, Keri made everything super cute. She even had a little photo booth set up.

Alan brought out the Lincoln Logs from his childhood and the boys had a blast playing with them!

One Sunday afternoon it was just gorgeous so we decided to have a pancake picnic

Today it is rainy and Jacob is getting over strep throat so we are cooped up! 

We made a fort and had lunch in there. 

 This silly cutie turns 4 in just 2 days!

Afternoon hike

Yesterday afternoon the boys and I headed up to Oak Glen for a picnic and hike with a few of the girls from my TMOMs table. The breeze was a bit chilly, but we warmed up once we started hiking. 

Of course the boys (Isaac especially) were too interested in playing with the other kids to eat their lunch, so soon after the hike started, I heard, 'I'm hungry! I'm hungry!' 

 Isaac had his hands full trying to eat his snack and carry his hiking stick.

Jacob told me he was trying to find all the 'chocolately goodness'. Guess where he learned that from??

Isaac was getting a bit weary so I kept telling him about the little lake we were hiking to and he was just certain there was treasure there! 

The favorite part of the hike was walking across the 'rocks in a line'.

Even though Isaac whined a bit, he did tell me when we got back in the car, 'Mom, that sure was a fun day!' and was excited that he had gotten some exercise. Jacob had a blast! I often had to call him back because he was just running or skipping along the trail, way ahead of us. He just loves hikes!


On our way home, we saw this herd of deer.

Fire station tour

Am I really blogging about something that happened TODAY?!? What???

This morning Isaac and I had the opportunity to tour the fire station. He was SO excited! He's always talking about being a fire fighter when he grows up (just like his Grandpa DeWeerd).

He wanted to ring that bell pretty badly, but it was non-functional. So disappointing. 

The kids learned about 'Stop, Drop and Roll'. Isaac listened very intently!

They loved listening to the firefighter talk with his mask on.

And watch them slide down the pole!

Then we got to see the big ladder truck. That's Isaac up in front, wearing his firetruck shirt and holding his firetruck book.

But TWICE! Pretty cool stuff!!

When we were leaving Isaac told me, 'That sure was pretty neat, mom!' It sure was!
