Busy Fun Saturday

Our day started at 5:30 this morning. Jacob has been waking up way too early lately! I have a theory but it has to do with poo, so I'll not share. :P

Alan had to be in Riverside at 9:00 to trade in our lawn mower for a battery powered one. Pretty cool deal. You give them your old mower and $100 and they give you a new battery powered one. We still have a gas one too in case the grass gets too thick. I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that our neighbors gave us their old mower. And the mower we traded in was one we had gotten for free too. :)

At 10:00 my parents came over to take Jacob for a walk. While they were off doing that I went to pick up my produce from the co-op. I came home with an onion. Apparently, there was a bit of drama when the organizer went to pick up the produce from the warehouse this morning. Not sure exactly what happened. Something about tomatoes and them wanting to charge her for tomatoes she ordered but didn't receive. When she tried to work out something with them, the warehouse people freaked out and told her to leave because they didn't want to deal with it. So she came back with nothing and will have to find a new place to get the goods. Bummer!

At 11:00 Jacob and I walked downtown to Blue Mud Yoga for a reunion with the prenatal class moms. Jacob had a blast playing with the other kids! It was like I didn't even exist.

It was a lot of fun to see everyone again. I got a couple e-mail addresses so Jacob can have playdates with his yoga buddies. ;)

After Jacob got up from his afternoon nap we headed over to Randall and Cecilia's to celebrate Karla's birthday. Jacob had fun playing in the grass and even got to play on a ride-on toy. Somehow he managed to get a small leaf in his nose. Not sure how that happened. We found it when he sneezed. Lovely.

9 Month Check-Up

Jacob saw his pediatrician for his 9 month check-up today. He is 16 lbs, 3 oz (below 5th percentile) and 27 3/4 inches long (25th percentile). So he isn't quite as long and skinny as he was at his 6 month check-up. Then he was in the 7th percentile for weight and 60th for length. The doctor was pleased with his growth and development. She was happy to hear that he is a piggy eater and a good sleeper. I love his doctor. Whenever we see her, she always says what a lucky baby he is to wear real diapers and eat real food. :) He only got 2 pokes today. One on his toe to check his iron level to make sure he isn't anemic (he isn't) and he got a polio vaccination. When the nurse pricked his toe he barely flinched, but when she was squeezing it to get the blood drop, he looked at me like, 'What is she DOING?" With the shot he gave 3 little WA WA WAs and that was it. Brave baby!

After his appointment we picked up Alan and went to Clark's Nutrition Center. I love that place, but always end up buying more than I planned to. I needed laundry detergent and we spent $40. Their bulk section is dangerous, especially the granolas. I got some teething biscuits for Jacob and gave one to him to try at dinner. He sucked on it a bit, then flung it over the side of his highchair tray, much to Homer's delight. :P

Memorial Weekend

We had a great Memorial weekend. Busy, but not so busy that we didn't have some down time to just relax.

Friday night Alan picked up some pizza from Gourmet Pizza Shop and then we watched a movie after putting Jacob to bed. Well, Alan watched it. I fell asleep. :P Saturday morning Alan had graduation and fortunately it didn't rain since it is held outdoors. While he was gone, Jacob and I picked up our produce from the co-op. I was looking forward to some strawberries, but they didn't have them because the crops were destroyed by the hail we got on Thursday. Isn't that sad?

Saturday afternoon my friend, Megan, and her boyfriend, Scott, came for dinner. The plan was to grill and eat outdoors, but it was way too chilly for that so we went to plan B and just did the lamb kabobs and veggies under the broiler. Jacob went to Grandpa and Grandma's so we could have an evening where we could be as loud as we wanted to be. Because ya know we are all just such party animals. Ha Ha! Scott was asking me for some embarrassing Megan stories and I couldn't come up with even one! And I have known Megan for 13 years. Megan was just the instigator and then sat back while the rest of us did the embarrassing stuff. The night brought up lots of stories about me, but none of Megs. I'm still thinking, Scott! :)

Yesterday morning we went to church and then after lunch was nap time for all. Late afternoon we went to the annual Commencement Cooler for champagne and snacks. We took Jacob with us and he was a hit. Everyone thought he was sooooo cute! :) He's at such a fun age with his smiles and giggles and funny noises.

This morning I went for a run after a 2 week hiatus. Oh man! It was like starting from scratch. :P Alan spent the morning digging up and pulling out all the sprinkler lines. Fun job. After Jacob's second nap we went to the park to meet Kristen and Oliver for a playdate. It was sad because it was the last time we will see them before they move to Connecticut on Wednesday. I met Kristen at the prenatal yoga class I went to while I was pregnant. We were due just a couple weeks apart so talked often after class. After the boys were born we kept up the friendship and have been getting together quite a bit. It has been fun to watch the boys grow up from tiny newborns to these mobile, active little guys. We will miss them!

I think this is hilarious! He knew the sticker was on his forehead and was trying to look at it!

Rain

Where did this rain come from? Okay, I know - the sky, but after all those hot days I wasn't really expecting a cold rainy day. It is POURING right now as I write this! We were supposed to go to the park this morning with the Mom2Mom group from church, but that isn't going to happen, obviously. I'm not complaining. I do love a rainy day. I've got my mug of hot tea to sip on so I am happy. :)

5 Years and 9 Months

Yesterday was a big day in DeWeerd household. Alan and I celebrated our 5th anniversary and Jacob turned 9 months. To celebrate our anniversary, Alan and I went out to Temecula to visit a few wineries and go out to dinner. It was very nice to spend a leisure day with my hubby. That was probably the longest we have been alone for a long time! The day was a bit roasty toasty, but no more than Redlands ~ about 100 degrees. We had (and bought) some great wines and had a yummy dinner, ending with a chocolate lava cake and espresso icecream that was to DIE for!

Jacob stayed by Grandpa and Grandma and did splendidly! He took a 2-1/2 hour nap and then took his bottle like a champ for Grandma. Sometimes the little stinker doesn't want to take his bottle from anyone but Alan or me. Then he played and played, exploring Grandpa and Grandma's house. He ate his dinner like the little piggy he is, then later took his bottle for Grandpa and went right to sleep. YAY!

Merry Christmas, Jacob!

Last July we ordered a toy chest to match Jacob's bedroom furniture. It didn't come in and didn't come in. When I called the store they said the warehouse in Chile had burned down and they were trying to get orders fulfilled as quickly as possible, but the toy chests were not high on the priority list (understandable). They said it may not come in until November so we decided that would be a nice Christmas gift for Jacob. Ha Ha! We didn't get it until about a month ago and Alan got a chance to put it together today. So, Merry Christmas, Jacob!

First Swim

Today Jacob and I went over to Kristen and Oliver's to swim. Jacob did pretty well for his first time. He whimpered a couple times, but seemed to enjoy it for the most part.



On Saturday our neighbors were having a garage sale and I noticed they were selling an activity table so I wandered over to ask how much they wanted for it. She just gave it to me! So now Jacob can play while he practices standing up. Its a little temperamental, but hey, it was free! :)Gotta love good neighbors. They also gave us a lawn mower! Good grief, they are nice. I felt like I needed to give them SOMEthing for their generosity, so I brought them over some strawberries from the organic produce stand. Yummy!

Mother's Day

Some of you may remember that before Jacob was born, everyone called him Dewey. So, this card was made just for us!

When I got up yesterday morning there was a vase full of roses from the garden and the card from Jacob on the table. They smell sooooo good! At church they had Mother's Day cards that the kiddos did their footprints on. Very cute! After church we went over to my parents'. We had brunch and then just lounged around. I got a book from my parents and a photo box from Jacob. I have been looking for one for the photo books I make, but haven't found one the right size. Alan found a really nice one. :)

Army Crawl

Jacob just learned how to do an army crawl. I don't think it will be long before he figures out how to get up on his knees. And yes, I know I am a mean mommy for moving the rings farther out of his way! :P



Both today and yesterday we went to Brookside Park for playdates. Yesterday we met with Kristen and Oliver and today we met with Cecilia and Daniela, Lisa and Dominic. Jacob loves to be outdoors! He interacts with other babies a lot more now too. Yesterday Oliver and Jacob were playing tug-o-war with the linking rings. I wish I had gotten a video of that! It was so funny!!

Weekend

We had a fun-filled weekend! It started Friday afternoon with a trip out to the Cabazon outlet mall. Alan and I racked up with some great deals. We didn't get anything for Jacob because he has tons of clothes in the 6-9 month range that we received as gifts. After all that shopping we grabbed some dinner and date shakes at Hadley's. Yum!

Saturday Alan worked hard all morning cutting dead palm fronds off one of the palm trees. He has been on a trimming spree lately. He cut down the 2 trees in the front yard and trimmed one by the road. You should see our driveway! It is full of brush. For lunch we headed over to the Holland Festival at Redlands Christian School and then wandered around looking at everything and visiting with people.

This morning was the Run Through Redlands. I did pretty well (for me), about what I figured. I beat over half the women in my age group, so that's not too bad, I guess. It was fun to run with all the Stroller Strides girls. There were about 15 of us that were in the race. I was really proud of everyone. We all did a great job, especially considering that most of us decided to start training just a month ago. I also saw a ton of people that I know from church, so it was kinda like a big party. My dad and brother Jeff also ran. Next year we need to get my mom, Mike and Alan to run it too. ;)

For lunch we went over to my parents' to celebrate my mom's birthday. We had chili, cornbread, salad and chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Here I am looking a little better than I did right after the race. :P

Jacob is starting to perfect his army crawl. He hasn't gotten up on his knees yet, but he scoots along on his elbows and slithers his legs along behind. Pretty cute. Won't be long and he'll figure out how to do a real crawl.

Fun day with friends

Today Maddie L. came over to play while her mommy was at work. Jacob had so much fun with her! Very cute to watch. He wasn't so fond of me feeding her, though. He cried and cried. Not sure if it was jealousy or just that he has been kinda fussy lately. Whatever it was, he was NOT happy!

This afternoon Jacob and I walked down to Fox Coffee to meet some new friends, Lisa and Dominic. Dominic is almost 3 months old and it was amazing to see a bitty baby and think that just a few months ago Jacob was that little. Lisa (Jean Kimm's niece) and her husband, Eric, moved to Redlands a couple months ago from Orange County. We had a nice time chatting and playing Dutch bingo. :P Its fun to meet new people!

Weigh in

Yesterday Jacob wanted to see how much he weighed, so I popped him on the scale. He had a blast sitting there banging on it. Funny how some things are just so entertaining! Why do we even have toys? Jacob seems most interested in everyday things around the house.
