The Living Desert

Last week was Jacob's spring break and I wanted to visit the Living Desert because even though I have lived in So. CA for over 20 years, I had never been there!!

First stop was the giraffes! At 10:00 you can feed them. Jacob wasn't interested, but Isaac was!

I love Isaac's face in this picture!

Little drummer boys

There was a cool playground that the boys saw on the website and were so excited to slide down the cactus slide. I tried to get a good picture of them, but this lady was glued to the end of the slide, waiting for her grandkids or something. Most of the time she was standing there with her head inside the slide and her bum waving in the air, but fortunately I didn't get a picture of that!

Jacob the snake wrangler

Of course Isaac was super excited to play in the spider web and pretend he was Spiderman!

I got caught in the web

Doesn't Isaac just look like Joe Cool here? Just hanging out, man!

Super fun carousel in the middle of the desert!

The highlight of the day was the enormous train track with a little city. Oh, the boys were so excited! We could have stayed there watching those trains go all day long and they would have been perfectly content.

But by this time, it was getting a bit warm out so we decided to leave and grab a late lunch before heading home. Fun day! We'll definitely be back. :)

Hike

Earlier this week we went on a little hike with some other moms and kiddos. I figured it might be a challenge because Isaac has never enjoyed hiking, but thought I would give it another go.

Right when we started out we saw three deer. You can see one of them between the trees. Cool, huh?

Jacob loves to hike and was so excited to go and bring along the hiking stick he made in Colorado last summer.

Isaac was not excited at all and just cried and cried for me to carry him. I made him walk about half of it. Mean mom, aren't I?

Oh, there's a happy face! He was happy because we could see the car and that meant the hike was almost over.

The area we were in has a lot of equestrian trails so we saw these pretty horses out for a hike too.

Enough pictures!

We ended the morning at the park across the street where we all laid out our blankets and had a picnic lunch while the kids played. I had a fun morning - the weather was beautiful, the scenery was gorgeous and the company was fun. Maybe one day Isaac will enjoy hikes too so it can be fun for everyone!

Bike Race

A couple weekends ago was the annual bike race in our town and the boys both rode in the kiddie races this year. Jacob was super excited about it from the get-go, but Isaac did NOT want to race. I signed him up anyway, in case he changed his mind. He did. The day before he told us he would RIDE with the other kids, just not RACE. Okay. You can do that. But when he got downtown and saw all the kids on their bikes he got super excited about the whole thing.

He's got his race face on

But this was what he looked like as he raced. Big, big smile!

He was beaten by everyone in his heat, except that bawling girl behind him there - she ended up dropping out, but who cares what place you got as long as you had fun, right?

Jacob is ready to race!

Perhaps you'll remember last year when he came in dead last waaaaayyyy behind everyone else. He did much better this year, about middle of the pack.

Way to go Jacob and Isaac!

Random

Oh my, my. I am behind on my blogging again. This post is going to be all over the place, filled with random pictures from over the past month. Yikes! Sit tight.

We went to Barnes and Noble for their Readers Fair or something like that. The Cat in the Hat was there and the boys thought that was pretty cool. Although they would not stand near him for a pic.

Jacob and his Cat in the Hat bow tie

Isaac with his Lorax mustache

Isaac had his 3 year check up - 31 pounds and 37 inches (both 40th percentile). Here he is in his cutie gown.

We threw a little baby shower for Daniella at my TMOMs table

I made her an owl hat because she LOVES owls

Close up of the hat

Jacob went to the dentist and the hygienist let him wear gloves
Say ahhhhh......

He looks all sweet and well-behaved here but he did NOT want them looking in his mouth that day.

Sometimes when you are sick, sitting in a box for your snack just makes ya feel better, ya know?

Clash day at school for Spirit Week

My Grandma and Aunt Kris came out for a visit. We had such a nice time just hanging out with them.

Yesterday Alan and I went to Temecula for some wine tasting and lunch. It was nice to get away, just the two of us.
This was at Mount Palomar, the largest winery in Temecula, where we had lunch.

Okay, I think that takes care of the random pics, so now on to some of our activities.....

Hour in the snow

Early last week we headed up to the local mountains for some fun in the snow.

Throwing snowballs

I think I was about to get snow bombed here

We made this cute little snowman

The boys were having so much fun playing with it

Then this huge beast of a machine came and annihilated it.

We were just happily playing and he came down the path we were on and for no good reason that we could figure out just smashed through our little winter wonderland. How many times do you think we heard, 'Why did that machine ruin our snowman?' We tried to explain that he was just doing his job, but in my mind I was thinking, 'Meanie!!'

We moved to a new area to play but left soon after all that business. Beside, the boys were pretty wet and cold and ready to go home.
