Anniversary Getaway

Alan and I celebrated our 8th anniversary last Tuesday (May 17) and went on a little vacation by ourselves to celebrate. Last weekend was the wine festival in Paso Robles so we headed up to the B&B at Venteux Vineyards where they had some fun festivities planned. This is the same place we took the boys last year where we stayed in the barn.

Remember this? (Look how little the boys are!)

We didn't stay in the barn this time. We were in a room in the B&B and let me tell ya, it was quite a different experience staying in the B&B sans kiddos!
This was on the porch right outside our room.

Friday evening we went to a nice restaurant in Paso Robles and enjoyed a delicious meal. I got roast chicken with peas, carrots and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were served in this little pot and I am certain there was a half stick of butter in that little pot of potatoes. So good! So naughty!
Saturday morning I got up early and went for a 5 mile run through the beautiful wine country. Loved it! It was so peaceful.
After a shower we were treated to a delicious breakfast of baked French toast, sausage, and yogurt with berries. Good thing I went for a run! Yikes.

After breakfast we went on a little drive and stopped in at the goat farm we visited last year. The goats were in a far off pasture so we didn't see them, but we did spot these beauties hanging out in the shop where they sell soaps, lotions, cheese, etc..

Love her nest! Hey Lady. That's not straw!!

And this GIANT chicken!

We happened upon a guy selling wine barrels and decided to see if they were cheaper than the ones we've been seeing at the home centers. They were not only cheaper, but in nicer condition. The seller wasn't going to be around on Sunday so we loaded them up in the car and drove around with them the rest of the weekend. The car smelled a bit grape-y. The worst was after the wine festival when the car sat in the sun for a few hours. The heat and the fumes made the windows nice and foggy!

We also bought these antique whiskey barrels. Aren't they cute?

The seller said he found them in the barn of a friend's dad. They had been sitting there for years and years. I think he was kinda sad that we bought them and left him with only one. Too bad!

We had lunch back at the winery where they were having a BBQ. Since we are cellar members there, the lunch was free. Can't beat that!!

Here is gangsta Alan getting ready to head out to the wine festival.

It was perfect weather! Not too hot, not too cold. There were lots of people but we didn't have to wait long at each winery booth. The tickets we bought allowed us to be there for 3 hours so we just paced ourselves with the tasting, watched all the people, and tried some food samples.

Back at the B&B they were throwing a paella party so we went back there for dinner. There was a cool band playing in the back of an old Dodge pickup truck. We didn't dance, but we sure had fun watching everyone else dance! Oh, there were some entertaining people!

Sunday morning we had another delicious breakfast before heading back home (frittata with asparagus, mushrooms and tomatoes, bacon, carrot muffin and greek yogurt with strawberries).

It was so nice to get away and spend some time together! My parents were so awesome for not only taking the boys all weekend, but also Homer and all 4 chicks! Thank you Dad and Mom! We owe you BIG TIME!!
