We had a couple mysteries this week and I have a feeling we will never know the answers.
Early in the week I noticed that Jacob had a greyish silver line on each of his lower front teeth. We tried brushing them off, rubbing them off and scraping them off with our fingernails, but nothing made them budge. We were perplexed. He had spent the day with my mom and she couldn't think of anything that he played with that would do that and we couldn't think of anything here either. By the middle of the next day, they weren't any lighter so I decided to call the dentist. They suggested we come in and let the dentist look at it. I figured it was something he chewed on that left marks, but I wanted to be sure. Fortunately, all it took was for them to use the whirring toothbrush with that scrubby toothpaste to get it off. And Jacob did fantastic, even staying in the chair and letting them put the seat back instead of sitting in my lap like he did for his cleaning in August. I was so proud of him!
The other mystery came that evening when Alan found Jacob with 3 AAA batteries. We have no idea where they came from! We don't use batteries that size often and the brand was some wacky brand I never heard of. We asked Jacob where he got them and he said he got them from the big box.
'What big box?'
'The one before we went bye-bye.'
'Okay......Can you show me the box?'
So we go into the kitchen and he looks around, but never comes up with anything. He also mentioned something about the dentist, but I know there were no batteries in their prize box! And even if there were, I think I would have noticed him pocketing 3 batteries. After much questioning (we wanted to find out where he got them so we could be sure there weren't any more), we found out nothing.
This next story isn't exactly a mystery because I can guess what happened, although I don't know exactly how it happened or who did it. Yesterday I could hear Jacob talking in the playroom about a spider. He is very into pretend lately, so I didn't think much of it, but then got a little concerned because I have found a few black widows in the house over the past month or so. So, I go in there and ask him to show me the spider. He brings me over to the French doors and points to cracks in one of the panes (looks like a spider). Lovely. I can assume that one of the boys took a toy and pounded the window. Not sure when. Not sure who and I know we'll never know.

Gloves
Jacob found the gloves in our hat stand a couple weeks ago and he wanted to wear them. Of course, Isaac couldn't be left out, so he got some out too.

Oh. Pardon me. I love how Jacob chose the pink dress gloves that were Alan's moms.

Names
Isaac figured out to say 'Jacob' so no more 'Dabba'.
Isaac calls himself 'Ah-kiss'.
The other day we were talking about names and I asked Jacob what my name is.
His answer - 'Nutrition.'

We have a group of squirrels who come and visit our walnut tree often. At times there are four scurrying around and the boys love to watch them. We named the one who first started coming around, 'Jumpy' after the squirrel on Curious George. When his friends joined him, we asked Isaac to name one. 'Kitten' is what he named it. So we have a squirrel friend named 'Kitten'.

18 (19) month stats
Isaac is coming up on 20 months and I haven't posted his 18 month stats yet (really more like 19 month stats), so before I forget what those stats are, I better post them.
He was 23 lbs, 14 oz (between 10th and 25th percentiles) and 32 1/2 inches (between 25th and 50th percentiles). I think the percentiles are right around where he was at 15 months.
One of Isaac's favorite things to do lately is to put little toys in boxes or bags or plastic containers. The other day he lugged around a paper grocery bag full of toys and would get very upset if Jacob came near his bag-o-treasures.
This is his container full of 'dahmoes' (dominoes).
One of his favorite places to sit
Isaac is very verbal and speaking in 3+ word sentences. Its amazing what he comes up with sometimes, although I know that much of it comes from Jacob. I hear Isaac saying things that Jacob says all the time. One of my favorite phrases that is all his own is, 'No. I dunt (don't).' I'll ask, 'Isaac, do you need a diaper change?' 'No. I dunt.' The way he says 'don't' is just so cute! I'll have to try to get it on video.
He just loves his big brother! He can't wait for Jacob to wake up in the morning and the instant he hears Jacob stirring he says, 'Jacob! I go get it!' (we're still working on pronouns). So he crawls as fast as he can up the stairs, runs down the hall and tries to open Jacob's door. We bust in and he yells, 'Morning, Jacob!' Oh, I just love it!
Isaac is a cuddler! He is really into lullabies before going to bed so I sing him song after song and he just snuggles in my lap with his blankets, doggy and monkey. Most of the songs are not lullabies, however. We sing, 'Wheels on the bus', the Veggie Tales theme song, the Thomas & Friends theme song, 'Old MacDonald', etc. etc. You can make any song soothing, if you do it in the right tone! Sometimes his song choices just crack me up. He asks me to sing songs that aren't even songs. He'll just want me to sing about something and I'll make it up. He doesn't care. His most requested subject is 'Pickle' and 'Junior'. If you watch Veggie Tales, you probably know what I am talking about. 'Pickle' is from 'Dave and the Giant Pickle (Goliath) and Junior is one of the main characters in Veggie Tales. So, I sing Pickle and Junior to the tune of 'Twinkle, Twinkle'. 'Pickle, pickle, pickle, pickle. Junior, junior, junior, junior.' I can assure you, its lovely.

Another pumpkin patch
Since the boys are loving the pumpkin patches so much, we went to another one on Saturday afternoon.
Playing in the pumpkin patch. We didn't actually buy any pumpkins, but that was the first place the boys wanted to check out.
I was trying to get them to look at me, but they were too interested in the pretty sunflowers.
Isaac thought it was so fun to ride on Daddy's shoulders
This pumpkin patch has a huge petting zoo. Jacob was all excited to go in by the goats, but he wouldn't touch any. Isaac was pretty freaked out the whole time. They LOVE to read about animals, talk about animals, play with toy animals, but just do not care for the real thing.
They did like the aviary and loved watching the ducks dive into the water.
This monkey was HILARIOUS! If you gave him a dollar, he would shake your hand. Jacob wanted to do it, so we gave him a dollar, but when the monkey got near, he freaked out and threw the dollar at the monkey! We snatched the dollar back and asked Isaac if he wanted to shake the monkey's hand. He didn't understand the concept that he had to give the dollar first so when he tried to shake the monkey's hand, the monkey wouldn't go for it (smart monkey). We did get Isaac to give him the dollar and he shook the monkey's hand. Unfortunately, I didn't have a very good view and this was the best picture I got.

Afternoon in Oak Glen
Monday and Tuesday was Fall break for Alan so on Monday afternoon we headed up to Oak Glen. I thought, 'Oh, wouldn't a hike be fun?' It wasn't horrible, but it was a little too much to ask of Isaac. If we let him walk alone, he got very distracted by acorns, leaves, dirt, etc. Most of the hike he just wanted me to carry him. While it was a bit cooler up there, carrying a toddler uphill made for a bit of a workout and I was pretty sweaty by the end.

After our hike, we tried some samples of apples and decided on some pippins (they didn't have my fave - honeycrisps). We also tasted some pumpkin butter, which Jacob loved! I think he dipped 3 sticks in the sample jar. He would have done lots of double-dipping if I hadn't been watching him closely. He was sad that he couldn't just keep tasting and tasting so I bought some for him. The next day I made pancake sandwiches and spread some cream cheese and pumpkin butter on them. YUM!

Pumpkin Patch
This morning Jacob, Isaac and I visited the pumpkin patch with my moms' group. The boys had a blast! There was so much to see and do! Isaac was just running around making these little yelling noises. It was like he didn't know where to go or what to say, his little brain was just on overload!
You can see the huge grin on his face! I think he was just amazed that there were so many pumpkins in one place. He kept saying, 'punkeen! punkeen!'

Pumpkins!
Searching for the perfect pumkin
Found it! This was Jacob's favorite part of the tour, by far. He was in heaven! He searched that whole patch over and finally rushed to me as fast as he could while carrying his pumpkin. I thought maybe he would find another one on his trek over to me, but nope, that was 'the one'!
Isaac, on the other hand, picked up about 1000 pumpkins and never settled on 'the one' so Jacob picked one for him too.
After picking out our pumpkins, we got to ride on a 'hay ride'. There was no hay, but we got to ride behind a tractor, which was pretty cool.

Since the boys LOVE avocados we bought some of the farm-grown avocados and we also got some of the farm honey. Yum! Alan told Jacob to get some and when we saw it on the shelves, Jacob yelled to me, 'Honey! We have to get some for Daddy!' He was so excited to tell Alan when he got home from work today that we bought honey for him.
It was such a fun morning! And to make our Pumpkin Day complete, this afternoon the boys helped me make pumpkin muffins and we had pork and pumpkin stew for dinner.
Can't wait to take the boys on another pumpkin patch adventure!
