Every birthday party starts out with a wrestling match, right?
We set up Jacob and Isaac at the 'kids' table so there was more room and need for less chairs. They just sat at the bench by our kitchen window with a card table pulled up to it.
Love those faces, huh? Messy! Isaac requested lasagna for his birthday celebration so I made one with meat and a veggie/pesto one with mushrooms and spinach.
Isaac wanted Legos with wheels so we got him a set. He loves to build!
Oh my goodness! He has been patiently waiting for his birthday to see if he would receive this book as a gift. He saw it at the bookstore a while back and fell in loooooove! We have read those stories over and over and over again since Boppa and Oma gave it to him!
One of the gifts we gave Mike was a 'gift certificate' to a new ice cream shop in Redlands. I put gift certificate in quotes because they don't actually sell certificates yet so I grabbed one of their fliers and stapled a 10 dollar bill to it. Classy, huh?
My mom found a birthday card with Rescue Fire Mater on it and you could make part of the card into a fire hat. To say that Isaac loved it is an understatement!
The new ice cream shop makes their ice cream using liquid nitrogen so Alan got the idea to do that for the birthday party. Pretty cool, huh? Its fun being married to a scientist!

The birthday boys!
Isaac had very specific ideas about what he wanted his cake to look like. We had lots and lots of conversations trying to figure out exactly what he wanted. He was very happy with the finished product. Whew!
It was a chocolate cake with strawberry filling (red to match Lightning, of course), vanilla buttercream frosting, a road with Lightning and Francesco (made with crushed up chocolate wafer cookies) and rainbow sprinkles.
Isaac stole Jen's chair so she was forced to the kiddie table.
Isaac wanted blue ice cream but since we didn't think everyone wanted blue ice cream, Alan made up a little at the end for him.
One of the gifts my parents got for both the boys were squirt guns. We all had a ton of fun with them!
The boys chased my poor mom around for a bit.
Isaac wanted to squirt Uncle Mike's beawd (beard).
Good thing it was pretty warm because the boys got wet, wet, wet!
