Access Granted

Okay, so we've had access to the house for almost a week now, but things have been pretty busy and I haven't had a chance to blog.

Jacob has a blast exploring the empty house. One afternoon he threw a little fit when we had to leave. Guess that is a good sign?? He loves the backyard! There is a glass door in the kitchen that goes to the backyard and now whenever we go over he stands by the door and taps on it letting us know he wants to play outdoors! I need to take some pictures of him playing out there.

This is one of his favorite places to go. Its a little landing next to the top of the stairs. He thinks it is so funny to be in his little nook. (He's holding/chewing on a booklight. The first night we went over we weren't sure if the electricity would be on, so we all brought flashlights).



This is in the boys' room and this is what Jacob thinks of the periwinkle walls. Doesn't he look slightly disgusted? One of the things we need to do (obviously) is paint this room! We are also going to tear out all the carpet upstairs. Alan peeled back a corner in all the rooms to see what the floor looked like. The interesting thing is that all the floors are painted and each room is a different color. The boys' room is a bright green! Wouldn't that make a lovely combination with the purple walls and green floor?!? This weekend Alan did a little sanding to see what the floor looks like under the paint. He said the paint came off really easily and the floor looked pretty good, so we have a refinisher coming out tomorrow to give us an estimate. Alan is NOT going to do it himself this time. Ha Ha Doing Jacob's room in this house was one thing, but to do an entire upstairs is another.



The previous owners left a box of stuffed animals in the boys' closet. They are pretty interesting, especially the fairy kitty pictured here.



Jacob having a little fun in the clawfoot tub. I can't wait to take a nice, relaxing bath in that thing. If you filled it to the top while Jacob sat in it, the water would be up to his neck! This is the bathroom that needs some remodeling. The flooring is peeling linoleum so we are replacing it with 1" hexagonal tiles. The tile company will be coming out this week to take a look at it as well as the kitchen where we are replacing the backsplash tile. We are putting subway tile in there. I think it is going to look pretty cool!



It is so exciting to be choosing all our new stuff, but also a little overwhelming! It seems like our list just keeps growing. Alan will certainly be busy these next weeks with all the stuff to do. Good thing he has a reduced load this semester!
